About RDA

River District Arts (RDA) is sometimes referred to as the Rappahannock Torpedo Factory.

River District Arts is happy to introduce its new Artistic Director, Rebecca Quinn — who comes to us through the Corcoran Gallery and School of Art + Design.  Rebecca's various experiences in the arts and regional associations aid her in adapting to her new position here at RDA.  Her plans to create a sustainable arts community includes invigorating artists to find new venues to promote their ideas and art through exhibitions, as well as sales.  She is currently learning all about our artists, who graciously associate themselves and their work in the collaborative, cooperative and professional effort we all know as River District Arts. As a working artist herself, she is creating her own work in Pottery, Metal and Book Arts, by merging ancient processes with modern technology.  Stop by and check out the changes in our galleries, artisan market and studios!

The People's Choice Award for our recent "En Plein Air" show goes to David Heath for "A Shenandoah Morning" and Runner Up goes to Kevin Adams for "Dark Hollow Trails".

Establishing itself as the premier annual art exhibit in the Piedmont, this juried exhibit is sponsored by Piedmont Virginian Magazine and hosted by River District Arts. You won't find a better art exhibit in the Piedmont region!

Founded in May 2011, River District Arts is an eclectic group of more than a dozen artists working in a wide variety of media and styles including oil, watercolor, photography, ceramic and collage. They are the heart and soul of River District Arts.

During your visit, you will experience artists at work in spacious, inviting and light filled studios that are open to the public every Thursday and Friday from 11 am to 8 pm.  Saturday and Sunday 10 am to 8 pm. You will have an opportunity to talk with them about their latest creations and browse our two exhibition galleries. The River Gallery and The Confluent Gallery feature regularly changing shows by local and regional artists. To stay abreast of current activities join our email list or like us on Facebook. An adjacent Artisan Market features fine hand made craft from Virginia artisans.

Plan to experience a wonderful selection of tapas and traditional Spanish cuisine at El Quijote.  They are open for lunch and dinner Thursday through Monday.

Located in Sperryville's River District, RDA is housed in a beautifully restored post and beam apple packing facility from the 1930s era, with touches of sophisticated modern interior architecture combined with exposed beams, rustic wood floors and sliding stable doors.

Art Enriches Life. That is the ultimate mission of River District Arts.

Open Studio, Gallery and Artisan Market Hours: Thursday and Friday 11 to 8; Saturday and Sunday 10 to 8.

During your visit of RDA, allow time to have a glass of wine, tapas, lunch or dinner at El Quijote, enjoy  and stop by our Rappahannock Central neighbors: Living Sky Foundation, Middle Street Gallery or Old Rag Photography or visit our neighbors at the River District:  Wasmund's Copper Fox Distillery and Copper Fox Antiques.  We have become Sperryville's Vibrant Creative Community!
